Job Openings

About our group and applying to it

We are a strongly collaborative and interdisciplinary group that aims to understand the physical basis of biomolecular mechanisms. We hire outstanding experimental scientists interested in using type of approach to answer biological questions from a quantitative point of view.

Experience in one or more of a variety of fields, e.g. (bio)physics, single-molecule techniques, optical imaging or microscopy, biochemistry, molecular biology, or quantitative cell biology, is welcomed. Candidates of all backgrounds who judge that they would thrive in such an environment are invited to apply. Women are particularly encouraged to apply, as they typically make up a smaller fraction of the applicant pool.

Interested applicants are invited to submit a cover letter explaining their motivation and fit to the group, together with a CV (including a complete publication list) and the names plus email addresses of three references. See further details below.

Open positions for postdoctoral researchers interested in eukaryotic replication

We have an opening for a senior postdoctoral researcher with experience in force spectroscopy and an interest in instrumentation who is keen to develop and use novel approaches to understand diverse aspects of DNA replication and chromosome biology. Please find a short description here and a more complete description with the application link.

In general, we are always looking to hire talented biophysicists, biochemists, microscopists to join our group! Outstanding candidates are highly encouraged to apply. A complete CV (including a complete publication list) and the names plus email addresses of three references should be included. Preliminary enquiries are always welcome and may be directed to Prof. Nynke Dekker.

Open positions for Ph.D. students interested in eukaryotic replication

We are hiring new Ph.D. students to join us in Oxford! Interested candidates should contact Prof. Nynke Dekker well in advance of the upcoming deadlines at the University of Oxford (D.Phil. in Physics/Biophysics - January 8, 2025; D.Phil. in Biochemistry - December 3, 2024). Please see the description here. Outstanding candidates will be eligible for fellowships.

Staff positions in the lab

We will be posting an opening in December 2024 or January 2025 for a senior technical staff member who will support the wider group through outstanding technical support and research in single-molecule instrumentation and microscopy. Preliminary enquiries may be directed to Prof. Nynke Dekker.

Postdoctoral researchers interested in viral replication

We will have openings for postdoctoral researchers in viral replication, in collaboration with research groups at Oxford. Interested candidates are requested to contact Prof. Nynke Dekker to explore the possibilities.

Options for external funding

Postdoctoral candidates are also encouraged to assess whether they are eligible for external funding, for which there are many opportunities. A brief listing is provided here:

  • BBSRC Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • EMBO Fellowships
  • EU Marie Curie Fellowships
  • Human Frontier Science Program Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Research Fellowships
  • Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellowship
  • Life Science Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • NWO Rubicon Postdoctoral Fellowships (for students with a Dutch Ph.D. degree to join us at Oxford)
  • Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Fellowships

Prospective PhD students should consider the following sources of external funding:
